I work with so many senior leaders in schools and systems that I spot trends quickly. What I see with the unbelievable politics of Trump et al is the same reaction that I saw with the unbelievable impact of decisions taken in 2020.

Back then, on the BBC News channel, Alastair Campbell summed up the ten things he’d be doing if he were managing the communications of Government today. They’re ten things that stand well for any leader and their team right now:

  1. You need to develop, execute, and narrate strategy

  2. Show leadership.

  3. Show a strong centre.

  4. Throw everything at the crisis.

  5. You have to use experts well.

  6. Deploy a strong team.

  7. You make the big moments count.

  8. You take the public with you.

  9. You show genuine empathy for the public.

  10. You give hope but you don’t give false hope.

In the face of decisions you're having to translate, explain and communicate to your community, which steps have you employed and which might you need to incorporate next?
